The Apostolic Myth

August 13, 2012 — 16 Comments

As the fifth post in the series called Five Myths Keeping Us Legendary, the idea of the Apostle will be our focus.

Yep. The Apostle.

I know what you’re thinking … maybe. You’re thinking, now Mark, you know Apostolic Cessation is factual. Paul was the last Apostle. He said so himself in 1 Corinthians 15:9. The people who were apostles are dead and gone. Let’s move past this and discuss something relevant to today.

This is the follow up to the third post, The Repentance Myth (part 1), in the series called Five Myths Keeping Us Legendary. Let’s get to it!

The Apostles’ Voice on Repentance

Peter said to them, “Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” (Acts 2:38)

Peter is sharing the Gospel of Christ to Jerusalem first. He is doing what Jesus said His disciples, now apostles, would be doing. Continue Reading…

The Mythical Sabbath

June 11, 2012 — 9 Comments

As the first post in the series called Five Myths Keeping Us Legendary, our focus will be “Remember the Sabbath Day, to keep it holy.”

But before that, let me tell you the journey I would like for us to embark upon each time we look to discover the Five Myths Keeping Us Legendary. Lets start it off with an inspiring video. It’s about the NBA Finals that start June 12!

If you’ve watched basketball at all, this voice will be familiar. The new owner of the LA Dodgers, Ervin “Magic” Johnson. He’s been a Champion. He has become a Legend. Continue Reading…

Portion Control

My wife and I have been trying to eat healthier. We have talked about portion control. We can manipulate our caloric intake simply by shrinking our plate! Eating off a saucer versus eating off of a platter, we are more likely to eat enough, not too much.

And as we all know, the more calories we consume, the more exercise we will need to burn them off.

That is really the only time I have used the word portion. Until I began meeting with a body of believers centered around the purpose of expressing Christ.

We have discovered portion in a whole new way.

New Testament Portions

Five occurrences of μερίς (portion) happen in the New Testament. Here are two of them.

Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? What accord has Christ with Belial? Or what portion does a believer share with an unbeliever? What agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God. (2 Corinthians 6:14-16a NASB)

Paul tells us a little about how to connect with people. He is speaking specifically with the meeting of a body of believers. He is encouraging us to be connected to believers, to righteousness, to light, to Christ, to the temple of God. In this context, there is a sharing of portions in all of these examples. A sharing.

For this reason also, since the day we heard of it, we have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that you will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all power, according to His glorious might, for the attaining of all steadfastness and patience; joyously giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in Light. (Colossians 1:9-12 NASB)

In his letter to the Colossians, Paul speaks of a qualification from God. He says that God, the Father, has given us access to the inheritance of the saints in Light. And with this inheritance, we share with others. We share.

Free Portions

So, what is your portion? Is someone putting you on a little saucer or are you free to be on The Huge Platter? What have you freely been given access to so that you can share exactly what God has placed in you? Are you sharing this portion with other believers for His glorious might to be expressed through His fruit?

Find your portion. Bring your portion. Share your portion freely. Receive others’ portions freely. You will see His fruit, His given portion, through each and every qualified saint in Light.

He is The Huge Platter holding all of our portions!

Hey, can you pass the broccoli?

We come to the 9th Cat being released out of the Bag. In, Grace, Will, Truth, Glory, Discipleship, Salvation, Purpose, and now, Head.

This information is highly debatable and highly controversial. So, may I say again, I am not a seminary-trained man. I am a man who is searching for the Lord. I am looking to edify the Body of Christ through these articles I have written for The Cat out of the Bag series.

Anything that steps on toes or goes against any traditions is not personal. It is my experience. It is something I have discovered as I have looked through the eyes the Lord gave me. I have also made some of these discoveries through interacting and being built into the Body of Christ with believers my wife and I meet with. Continue Reading…
