Thursdays have become a wonderful opportunity to contextualize the Christ in us. The fourth Thursday of each month in regards to the New Edition of this blog is about the Army of God. I hope you are encouraged in your faith journey that is In Christ.
The Army of God
We have been able to watch the history of wars and see the results of decisions for good, or decisions that didn’t work out well. Having a new perspective on God’s Army, I would like to offer up a view of His Army that may be an increase to our understanding of spiritual warfare.
Spiritual warfare has been an interesting topic in come circles I have been in for the last few years. If I can put on the Armor of God, perhaps I can be a Warrior for Christ.
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.
Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. Stand firm therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the Gospel of peace; in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. (Ephesians 6: 10-17 NASB)
What if the you in this passage was plural? That would make the armor of God a corporate expression. If the armor of God is a corporate expression of the Body of Christ, then may we see that Christ is all. May we see that the Army of God is Christ Himself. We are members of His Body. And as members, each of us puts on our piece of armor.
The armor of God is made up of different pieces for different members of the Body…loins, rib cage, feet, arms and legs, head, and hand.
We have access to His armor based off of the functioning member of the Body of Christ that we are. There is peace and rest in knowing that we are able to function on the attack, protecting all of our members.
This happened to me this past weekend. The Body I meet with had a meeting where we were seeing the leadership of Christ as our Head. Our entire group agreed on His leading for our next season of Life together.
May I just say, this is something that I could not have seen as possible just 1 year ago. I would have seen it as just theory before. However, Christ has expressed Himself through His Body here. His armor was on and His Body is moving and advancing.
What we discovered is that the season we were in was a little out of rhythm. We were a little disconnected. Our focus was on Christ, but we have been distracted.
We looked to Christ together and listened for His leadership. There were times when Peace was given. There were times when pursuing righteousness was expressed. There were times when freedom and salvation was discussed. But the most important part of the armor that was expressed was the truth, or reality, that was about our waist, our loins.
The creativity of Christ was on display. He is creatively revealing ways to express Himself through the reality of our Body.
The rhythm of the season we are headed into is about to express His beautiful Life. Where the Rhythm will be Life, and His Life will be our Rhythm. Warren G has his lyrics to “Regulators” on RapGenius – If You Don’t Know, Now You Know. Lyrics are PG-13…ish.
What Army Are You In?
If you are in the Army of God, you are in Christ. You are a member of His Body. He has provided you with the armor specific to your functioning member. As the Body moves for the Kingdom of God, we corporately function together to be about His Purpose.
Being in the Army of God, in Christ, we already know the results of the end of the war. We are able to fight with Christ with the confidence of victory that He provides.
Lebron James just won the NBA Finals. Commentators are talking about how that now that he has won a championship, he will be able to take his game to a whole other level because of the confidence that he has gained of achieving a championship.
The same is with the Body of Christ, armored up, and in His army. We know the end result. We know we are winners. The details of the battle will handle themselves. We can live in confidence of the destination of any battle the Lord takes us through.
So, live in Christ. Put on the armor He has for you. Not all of it. You don’t need all of it. You only need what He gives. Himself. And He is every piece of armor as well. He is Truth. He is Righteousness. He is the Gospel of Peace. He is Faith. He is Salvation. He is the Spirt. He is the Word of God!
And as His army assembles, stay in His cadence, in His rhythm. For His Rhythm is Life, and Life is His Rhythm. He is the epitome of G-Funk!
