Reality Check

“Reality check…Gandhi is going to hell.” That is what I just heard while I am sitting in a coffee shop writing. Needless to say, it tweaked my spirit.

And let me tell you why.

The comment came from a conversation between a guy who is giving his life away and hanging out with some teenage boys. They are young. They are impressionable.

They just met here at the coffee shop because the big building church they meet at didn’t have a room for their small group to meet. So, the intimacy of the coffee shop called. And they’re sitting 3 feet away from me.

Discussing what hell would be like.

Discussing what heaven would be like.

Judgement Day. People being held accountable for events in their life. Love Wins by Rob Bell.

Then the word popped out . . .

The Gospel.

Reality Check

These kids listened to this guy breeze past the phrase, “the Gospel.” because it was understood. They all knew what this leader guy was talking about, right? The Gospel. We all agree on what that is.

Or do we?

I ask that we have a reality check. Let us check our reality.

This is one of the toughest things we can do. Check our reality at the Door. Because if we do that, we are telling the world that our reality isn’t actually reality.

If we check our reality at the Door and believe there is another reality available, our identity, our past, our future, our now…is forever changed.

So, let’s check our reality. At the Door. And as we step through the Door, let’s allow a New Reality to be made manifest in our lives.

The Difference Between Existence and Experience

I have been sold a Gospel that falls short of the Gospel I am now aware of. I have been sold a Gospel that is initially fire insurance. It then transfers to become a Gospel that provides everyone with an opportunity to work your way towards another level of faith, perhaps a higher level or a deeper level, or a better level.

For me, I have found that this Gospel is shallow. I have heard people say, from where I have come from, that relationships are a mile wide and an inch deep. That’s about right for the Gospel that I was sold. I bought it though.

Experience comes with time, with events, with interaction, with relationship. Depending on the level of experience you have with a particular subject, one might be called an expert…because of their experience.

Existence comes with a circulatory, digestive, endocrine, immune, lymphatic, muscular, nervous, reproductive, respiratory, skeletal, and urinary systems. Depending on the efficiency of these different systems in one’s human body, one would have a more fulfilling existence. There are no degrees of existence…one either exists, or they don’t.

Simply put, existence is internal, experience is external.

One’s existence influences one’s experience. And one’s experience becomes one’s reality.

Echo-Echo

So brothers and sisters, may I echo.

Let’s check our reality at the Door. May we allow our experiences to be redeemed through the Door. As our experiences are welcomed and redeemed, we are given a new Existence. This new Existence is a fresh Life. This fresh, new Life, new Existence develops. This new Existence becomes more efficient. This Existence influences our now new experience into a new Reality that is outside of our current reality.

This is the Good News. This is the Gospel!

New Life comes to us as we walk through the Door. Our new Existence begins. And this Existence is based off of a Divine Body made up of Divine Systems. As these systems of the Divine Body are expressed and are built together through time, Experiences are born. And the Experiences found through this new Existence usher us through the Door into a new Reality.

And it all started with a reality check.

Check it. What’s your reality?

Reminds me very much of something Rob Bell said.
